Emotional competence is therefore a success factor for interpersonal situations – regardless of whether they are colleagues, employees or customers.

Instructions

After introductory instructions and trial tasks, both EMOTION modules are completed in a time-limited manner, in multiple choice format (single selection from 3 or 8 alternatives). The tasks of the test are compiled randomly and one task is output per page.  The evaluation takes place using the correct/incorrect answer format.

The figurative module is created as an SPPED test and released for using as an unprotected home test.


Theoretical background

Emotional competence forms the basis for interpreting other people's verbal and non-verbal emotional responses. With emotional competence, we succeed in correctly classifying the emotions and feelings of others and adapting our own behaviour to them. Accordingly, emotional competence in a professional context always plays a role whenever working with colleagues or customers. 

The process development is based on two fundamental theoretical approaches from the field of emotional research, the 7 basic emotions valid across cultures (happiness, anger, surprise, fear, disgust, contempt and sadness) and the so-called micro-expressions. In one of the two test modules, the task is to assign emotionally descriptive adjectives to the appropriate basic emotion. The other test module presents photos of people who differ in age and gender and need to be categorised as quickly as possible. The aim here is to distinguish minimal differences in the facial expressions of the people depicted.

EMOTION is suitable for the selection of employees who regularly interact with other people and benefit from a correct assessment of the state of mind of their fellow human beings.
