Persons with high values in this process are able to correctly assess typical situations from a manager's professional environment, orient their actions accordingly and make decisions in the interest of the organisation.

Dimensions

Z (Z-Score): Standard score in value range 70-130 (M=100, SD=10); PR (percentile rank): Share in reference group with a score that is at most as high.

Instructions

The test makes use of the forced-choice format. Following an introductory instruction, various professional situations are specified based on the context of a management position, in which a decision must be made on the further course of action. To do this, 5 behavioural alternatives must be ranked.

DECIDE can be customised at the customer's request. Suitable situations can be selected from an existing pool in order to map specific company and activity characteristics in a targeted manner and to enable the most realistic activity preview possible. The optimal ranking of the behavioural alternatives is determined by our own experts in order to incorporate the respective corporate culture in the evaluation.

Theoretical background

DEDICE is a situational judgement test (SJT) for ascertaining decision-making behaviour in management situations. After an introductory instruction, various situations from the everyday professional life of managers are presented, representing personnel management tasks on the one hand and strategic management tasks on the other. The development of the situations and the behavioural alternatives was based on established management theories and the associated behaviours. Five approaches are available, each of which differ in terms of their effectiveness. People suitable for management positions are able to choose consistently effective behavioural options.

Which behaviour a person opts for when they choose depends in particular on their personality and abilities. The score in this test therefore depends on how well the individual skills and characteristics match the requirements of a management position. DECIDE therefore provides an additional benefit for predicting future professional performance beyond intelligence and personality tests.

The use of DECIDE is particularly recommended when it comes to selecting (prospective) managers and assessing their ability to make correct decisions in the management context. The process gives participants a good insight into the day-to-day work of managers and at the same time allows a solid forecast of the expected behaviour.
