INTEREST-L supports the identification of the appropriate career path. The resulting profile provides information about the interest in a career as a manager, as an expert in the specialist area and in the project area and is therefore a suitable aid for career planning.
The INTEREST-L is completed randomly using the Likert scale format. After an initial instruction, descriptions of professional activities from everyday working life are shown, such as managers, technical experts and project managers.
The activities must be assessed on a 7-level scale in terms of interest/disinterest. All items in the item pool are drawn in random order and all items must be completed.
The interests of a person and their fit with the professional environment have an influence on job satisfaction, professional success and staying in the company. If employees have been with a company for a long period of time, the question of which direction they can develop inevitably arises at some point. For a long time now, many companies have offered more options than the traditional management career. Anyone who is already on their way to becoming an expert in their specialist area no longer necessarily has to give up this status today, but can enjoy it as an expert - without having to encounter any disadvantages. Experienced employees who know the company well can also use this knowledge to bring together employees from different departments into projects and successfully manage them.
INTEREST-L ascertains a person's interest in a management, specialist and project career and thus supports the identification of the appropriate career path. As the measurement intention is comparatively transparent, INTEREST-L is typically not used in personnel selection. Rather, it is recommended to use it for self-selection in order to exclude less suitable career options early on and to purposefully pursue more suitable options.
